Random thoughts of envy and blessings

I was reading my world-traveling, single friend's Facebook page today. (It is her birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMY!). And then I started feeling quite envious. Envy is not a pretty emotion, but it is what it is, right? But I gave pause for contemplation and here's what I came up with.

Growing up I didn't expect to be a "stay at home mommy" but my personal convictions led me to this moment in my life where I am home with three busy, sweet, darling children.

I realize could have chosen other paths that would have been exciting and rewarding in their own way, but this is the life I chose and although there are days I think of what I could have done with these years of young family life, I ultimately am grateful for the blessings I have been given.

I applaud my friends who are living out my alter ego's dreams and trust that "to every time there is a season and a purpose" and that this season is short and that "I will not pass this way again."

So in 2009, it is my goal to be better about making time for my beloved friends but while I work on that goal I take solace in the fact that other moms share the challenge of time/family/friends/self. I found this article on another high school friend's Facebook page. I enjoyed it and thought others might also. (Click the article to see a bigger version that is a bit easier to read.)

  1. the greatest article ever!! so many times i say that i do nothing in a day. i accomplish nothing. now i know why i spend 10 hours a day accomplishing nothing. the other few minutes of my day, they are in bed, and i actually get some things done...or, i just sit and do nothing because i am so tired from doing "nothing" all day. thank you.
    love you
    miss you
oh...and, since you are pretending to be busy every day when really you are doing nothing, you should post more to your blog. i check it all the time to keep track of you.
did i say "love you" and "miss you?" i do.

  2. I know how you feel :) I thought the other day "Is this really what I am going to be doing for the next such and such years??!"
As far as the article I enjoyed it a lot. I think all mom's are different and everyone chooses their time differently--with what works best for them.
I am actually super grateful I have friends who don't have kids and a husband because when we get together we don't have to talk about any of it!
You are a good mommy and yes the time and the season.

  3. I love, love, love that article. Time is a precious commodity, but how fantastic when we choose to spend that time drawing rainbow chalk hearts (made me smile when I drove by your house), just sitting and watching the kids play (so you don't have to stop what you're doing when they say "Watch this"), and reading a book of THEIR choosing before bed (instead of a book of your choosing that may or may not have a shirtless man on the cover). You are an amazing mom Kim and I love you dearly. Next time you sit down to rest for 10 minutes...call me.
